Halfway between the west coast of the United States and Japan floats a mass of plastic particles and trash twice the size of Texas. It is a swirling mass of plastic waste trapped in place by two large, oceanic gyres formed by ocean currents. In some areas the plastic particles are estimated to be 90 feet thick. Filmmaker Angela Sun travels to uncover this mysterious phenomenon. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers, and volunteers who look at the effects of our rabid plastic consumption. The problem is probably more insidious than we could have imagined. If it never goes away, where does it go?
